How do you think that we, as a society, are creating/exacerbating the problems of eating disorders?

I look at the people on TV and think: there is no way in the world I could be that tall, no way I could possibly get that skinny, my rib cage is bigger than their bust is. Like, what are people thinking? This, the skeleton-with-skin look is in, right? The people on America's Next Top Model look like emaciated freaks under all the hair and makeup! Like, how in the world did they get that tall? I'd have to starve myself to death to look anything at all like they do. But I wouldn't want to be that unhealthy or that skinny. I mean, ';bony'; doesn't begin to describe how thin those girls are. I've got curves that are natural to women, the way people are supposed to look instead of skeletons with skin. The thought that the people on TV who are that unearthly thin is a large part of what makes girls my age think they are fat, think they have to be rail thin to be pretty. I don't actually think being that skinny is attractive...those models don't even have hips or boobs! It's unhealthy and unnatural. But the media portrays that as the ideal. I think they just get caught up in the hype and think: to be pretty, I have to be skinny, I'm ugly if I don't fit the stereotype of a model who is rail thin. Maybe not in those words, but you can see what I mean.
